North Carolina companies do a lot of business with local, state and federal government agencies. Following are links to resources that will assist you in doing business with government entities.   • NC Division of Purchase & Contract - The central purchasing authority for all state departments, institutions, agencies, universities, and community colleges. It also makes certain services available to local governments, public school systems, private colleges and universities, and other non-state entities.
  • NC E-Procurement - Allows government entities to aggregate purchases from vendors. Vendors receive increased access to markets without additional marketing efforts, a single point of access for North Carolina government organizations, a faster and more efficient method for quoting (eQuote), and increased order accuracy through receipt of electronic orders with a consistent purchase order format.
  • NC Procurement Technical Assistance Center - Helps business obtain contracts by providing comprehensive assistance in selling products and services to local, state and federal government entities.
  • Local Government Purchasing and Contracting - Information from the UNC School of Government on about local government contracting, bidding and other requirements for purchasing and construction contracting.
  • NC Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses - Assists firms with becoming certified as historically underutilized businesses. In addition, the HUB Office provides outreach, training and networking opportunities for new and established HUB firms. This website provides access to our programs and core services, HUB vendor/firm database, upcoming bids with various state agencies and public entities, HUB Annual Reports, HUBSCO Construction Reporting System, the latest news and calendar information for training and conference sessions.

Military

Home to the fourth largest concentration of military personnel in the nation, North Carolina houses 107,000 active-duty troops at Ft. Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, Camp LeJeune, and Cherry Point, forming the bulk of the U.S. Defense Department's first response forces.

Millions of dollars are spent annually by these installations for the goods and services. Former military personnel also represent an excellent source of skilled, disciplined, goal-oriented employees for new and expanding businesses.

These resources can help your community leverage the presence of the military in North Carolina to promote economic development and quality of life for all its citizens.

  • Department Of Commerce: Government & Military Procurement
  • North Carolina Military Business Center - A business development organization and collaborative effort between NC Community College System and NC business and industry to increase military business for NC companies, to integrate transitioning military personnel and family members into the workforce and to support recruitment and development of defense related business in NC.  Also, visit www.matchforce.org.
  • NC Military Foundation. A non-profit established to bring federal defense and homeland security jobs and investment to NC through identification of emerging defense and homeland security opportunities. In collaboration with government, academia and business leaders they capitalize on opportunities that fall within NC's core strengths of manufacturing, technology, research and development.
  • Procurement and Technical Assistance Center with the Small Business and Technology Development Center of UNC provides technical assistance to companies desiring to do business with the Department of Defense or other federal agencies.
  • Defense and Security Technology Accelerator. A non-profit to assist entrepreneurs with the rapid deployment of dual use defense and technology solutions to meet military and private industry demands.

Transportation

  • N.C. Department of Transportation - The N.C. Department of Transportation works with a wide variety of contractors and vendors to oversee all aspects of the state's transportation infrastructure, including the nation's second-largest highway system and ferry system, as well as aviation, rail, public transportation, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. NCDOT also has extensive resources available to assist small, minority- and women-owned businesses, and provides "one-stop" certification for disadvantaged enterprises to participate in federal transportation contracts available through multiple agencies in North Carolina.

  • Recovery Act Opportunities - Provides information about opportunities through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
